Tony explained “That's why I got out and started looking for systems that might do that balancing. I started looking at open-source software and found HAProxy. I was playing with that and set it up and then found out that Snapt had a plug in for that and a graphical interface that made things a lot easier. I downloaded it, tried it out and it worked great. Then we went ahead and licensed it, set it up with the Exchange.”
“It has gone from an uptime of between 50% and 70% to 98%.”
Snapt’s Solution
Corvallis School District has an Aria Essential license to load balance their two Exchange Servers and their Federated Authentication Servers.
Tony described getting started with Aria, explaining that “There's a nice, simple little tool that automatically added all the necessary ports and features and functions for that load balancer, and that worked great. After we did that, we discovered that we also had the ability to do some load balancing for our federated services. We set that up as well.”
Benefits and Improvements
Tony mentioned the benefits of Snapt Aria, stating it has a small footprint and only takes 10-15 minutes to set up. Tony further detailed that “The ease of use and quick installation are key too.”
Tony expanded on their experience with Aria and ease of using the product: “Being a Linux back end, it just runs pretty quickly, there's no delay or hesitation. To be quite honest, I rarely get into the interface to do anything or even look at it. It just runs.”
In addition to the quick and easy setup, Tony also explained how Snapt Aria benefitted his whole team. “It really benefits me and my team, the systems team, when it comes to the management of the servers. Because we're load balancing, I can take any one of those servers down and do some updates, add some RAM, whatever I need to, and nobody else is going to even know because it load balances to the one that's running. That's where it's really helpful.”
