Notifications Update Released

We are proud to announce the release of the new Nova Notifications system which allows you great control over what notifications you receive (and how), as well as improved general notifications across the platform. As you can from the screenshot, you can choose which categories of notification are emailed to you vs sent as a text message (optionally). You'll also find many more places relevant notifications are visible now throughout the platform.

API Gateway ADC Launch

June 10 Destinations Outage

Snapt Nova Destinations experienced a 5-7 minute outage for a small subset (2-4%) of its users yesterday, June 10, 2021. Snapt Nova uses NS1 as a global DNS partner for Nova Destinations - our managed GSLB solution. Yesterday, Snapt upgraded its contract with NS1 due to the increase in QPS and the number of hosts on the Nova Destinations network. At that time, several hosts that are part of our service were "reset". We detected the issue after approximately 120 seconds and had rectified it within 7 minutes (5 minutes after detecting it). Those hosts were around 2-4% of hosts with Autoscalers or Destinations (~1-2% of users) on the system. Even though it was resolved very quickly, the affected hosts returned NXDOMAIN responses. This led several ISPs and local DNS servers to cache the responses for between 5 and 30 minutes. Typically, Nova Destinations allow a maximum of 30 seconds, but, when no response is returned DNS servers can have variable and unpredictable cache times. Almost all primary DNS providers (Google, OpenDNS, Cloudflare) had the issue resolved within 8-10 minutes of the initial problem occurring. Our total outage time was just under 7 minutes, but due to the nature of DNS caching clients that were using the service during the 7-minute outage could have been affected by between 5 and 30 minutes. We want to offer our sincerest apologies, and we are going to investigate how this occurred and what can be done to prevent it in the future. We also want to offer you our reassurances of the quality of the service. This is the first reported Nova Destinations outage of any kind in over 2 years.
